Flitwick and Wootton progress to National Finals

Flitwick Eagles U12's and Wootton Rangers U10's both won their respective age groups at the FA Regional Futsal Finals.

Representing Bedfordshire in the FA Regional Futsal Finals (Eat Midlands) selected representative teams traveled to Nottingham University on Sunday pm to play against teams from 4 other counties.

WIth many of our teams quite new to futsal is was testimont to them that both Flitwick Eagles U12's and Wootton Rangers Youth U10's both won their respective age groups and will now be heading to the FA National Futsal Finals.

Please see the match reports from Flitwick Eagles U12's fixtures:

Game 1 - Ecclesbourne (Derbyshire)

Ecclesbourne and Eagles coaches and players mingled well all day and it was a fantastically friendly and highly skilled game to start off proceedings.

A simply outrageous goal by Freya Stichbury nodding the ball past her marker and smashing it into the net settled early nerves and 1 was quickly 2 with Freya again showing her skill and touch to beat the defender to slot home.

The opponents scored a great goal shortly afterwards but Robyn Noble off the line twice and Nat Wickins flying all over the box kept the score at 2-1.

The Eagles girls walked off taking a surprise victory to start proceedings.

Game 2 - Green Town Greens (Leicestershire)

Freya Stichbury again outsmarted the defence to score very early in the second game against a very skillful team that all played with a smile on their face.

Energetic movement and passing from India Stanier-Martin and Jennifer Johnston kept the Eagles going forward but the Greens were creating chance after chance.

Nat Wickins and Libbi Spring were fantastic in keeping the Greens at Bay and the Eagles held on for a 1-0 victory and found themselves in the final.

Final - Rushden & Diamonds (Northamptonshire)

Rushden were a very strong side that had won their first 2 games impressively.

Eagles took the lead when Jennifer Johnston's lob found the back of the net early on in the game.

With 10 minutes left in the final this turned into the Nat Wickins goalkeeping show with ridiculous save after ridiculous save helping compliment the other girls incredible work ethic as they continued to run themselves into the ground to keep the lead intact.

Great scenes at the final whistle as Eagles held on for a 1-0 win.

What an incredible display and what a day!
