Bedfordshire FA and BRASS (Bedfordshire Refugee & Asylum Seeker Support) opened Refugee Week with a football tournament. Refugee Week runs from the 19th – 25th of June 2023.
The platform allows the wider community to celebrate the contribution of refugees to society whilst furthering knowledge and understanding. Hosted at Russell Park (Bedford), the tournament played host to 11 different teams competing in a 5 aside format. A total of 125 people were in attendance to commemorate the event.
To conclude a fantastic day of football, Luton Blues were crowned winners after a nail-biting penalty shootout in the final. A special mention to all associated with the newly established refugee football provision in Luton which has proved to be an impactful programme in a short space of time.
A big thank you to our partners at BRASS for their hard work and organisation in ensuring this tournament was a success. We look forward to next year!
We would like to extend our thanks to the generous donations of kits we have received via the boot bank initiative, we were able to put this to best use on the day. Donations remain open via the ‘Beds FA Boot bank’ (all information is available via the poster below).
