Professional referee delivers Development Group session

Stephen Parkinson, Elite Development Group referee gave an insight on his journey to the Referee Development Group

On Thursday 30th of November, the Bedfordshire FA Referee Development Group met for their monthly meeting at Century House in Dunstable.

This month we were fortunate to be joined by current Elite Referee Development Group official and current 2A referee, Stephen Parkinson, who delivered an engaging session for the 16 in attendance. Steve spoke about his journey as a referee, tips on getting to the next level, gaining an athletic edge and the psychology of decision making.

James Cantwell (Level 4 Referee and Referee Development Group member) led a session on matchday nutrition. Areas of focus included pre and post game meals and also half time nutrition. The Referee Development Group were provided with energy gels to trial in upcoming games to enhance performance.

The next Referee Development Group session will be held during December whereby we will look to provide further development in the area of physical preparation of match officials.
