On Thursday 17th August 2023 the Bedfordshire FA Inclusion Advisory Group (IAG) hosted the second South Asian Heritage Month Event. The event saw over 35 individuals come together for an evening of Celebration, Commemoration and Education.
Nathan Gill Bedfordshire FA Inclusion Advisory Group Chair opened the event.
This was followed by IAG member James Cantwell interviewing Jarnail Singh in a live Q & A session. Janail gave an insight into his refereeing journey. Janail (former EFL Referee and current PGMOL Observer & Coach) shared his journey through football. From being a young footballer to starting his refereeing journey in Sunday football. The audience then had the opportunity to ask Jarnail questions gaining further insight into his journey, the challenges he has faced and his recommendations for any aspiring young referees.
There was then a short interval, which was utilised as an opportunity for those in attendance to network.
The second half of the event recommenced with Nimesh Patel (FA Coach Development Officer – Diversity & Inclusion) giving his coaching story, initially describing how he started as a coach. Nimesh went on to describe the important experiences, setbacks and individuals that supported him at important times which supported him to reach his current role at the FA.
