Stotfold FC open New Roker Park stadium

Stotfold FC open £2 million New Roker Park to a bumper crowd

Stotfold FC were delighted to open their new JSJ stadium on Saturday 8th February after saying goodbye to Roker Park where they have played since 1965. The New Roker Park is situated on Arlesey Road, Stotfold, SG5 4HE and was delivered by Settle group as part of a £2 million pound relocation in return for housing development at the old site. This momentous occasion has been greatly assisted by the pivotal involvement of Stotfold Town Council and Central Bedfordshire Council in making the 20 year dream a reality.

Stotfold Town Council have invested substantially into the playing surface by joining the Pitch Improvement Programme and working closely with Regional Pitch Advisor for the IOG – Phil Jeggo to provide the ideal pitch quality surface for the football club to manage as they now settle into their new home moving forward.

Bedfordshire FA and The FA provided support and guidance in the early stages of the build to ensure Robert Lombardelli Partnership and Borras Construction adhered to the ground grading requirements. As a result of the planning conditions to relocate the ground, the infrastructure will future proof the club in seasons to come as it is suitable for providing football up to Step 4 of the National League System.

It was fitting that Stotfold's first game on the new pitch was to host a fellow Bedfordshire club in a Spartan South Midlands Division 1 match against Shefford Town and Campton who were only promoted as Bedfordshire County League Champions last April. The game was an 8 goal thriller that saw Stotfold win 5-3 in front of 644 spectators made up of many former players, managers and committee members associated with the club.

It was also poignant that one of the long standing Stotfold FC stalwarts and club secretary, Julie Longhurst was presented with her 'Volunteer of the Year' award from 2019 to coincide with the very special opening and patiently awaited celebration in what effectively has been two decade's in the making.

Many of the youth team players and their parents along with ground hoppers were in awe of the tremendous facility, which also includes a kitchen, bar and social space available for hire to the local community. Two-team changing facilities are also available to use for fixtures that are arranged through the hire of the community grass football pitches via Stotfold Town Council.
