BCFL Heart-break

The Bedfordshire County Football League Representative Team suffer heart-breaking Second Round defeat in the 2018 Inter League Cup.

Manager Gary Chance commented:

“I certainly feel that we have created a good togetherness and spirit in the squad; something that hadn’t been achieved in previous years.

I believe that the spirit and the quality of players and coaches in this season’s squad is a reflection of how the league is progressing with clubs/teams certainly looking to improve both on and off the pitch at county level.”

The management team have also expressed the desire of players to play more fixtures throughout the season to the league as a continued process of improving.

The Bedfordshire FA would like to extend our appreciation to every individual involved in the BCFL and look forward to supporting the inevitable development in the years to come

GAME RECAP 25/11/2017 - BCFL 4v5 AFC

Local confidence was high after the previous first round win, proving what we have known for some time now; that the standard of football at Bedfordshire’s Step 7 is as strong as ever. The BCFL Premier Division continues to go from strength to strength, with high hopes for the foreseeable future.

The opposition at the weekend were the Amateur Football Combination, affiliated to the Amateur Football Association. Their Rep Side are based in London, and play regular fixtures against fellow leagues within the area.

The game turned out to be one to remember, at least for the spectators. Whilst the BCFL players will feel they could and should have won the game, they would have learned a lot from the experience at this level. Despite a late goal for the visitors, the hosts stayed calm and were rewarded before the 90 minutes were up when a corner bounced off a defender’s head into the back of the net to tie the scores.

Extra-time began just as the game went crazy; the score changed back and forth until the final whistle.

- BCFL 2-3 AFC
- BCFL 3-3 AFC
- BCFL 4-3 AFC
- BCFL 4-4 AFC
- BCFL 4-5 AFC

Less than a couple of minutes from believing the tie was won 4-3, the BCFL team found themselves 4-5 down leaving themselves with not enough time to claw their way back. The defeat is a tough result to stomach given the quality on show this season.
