In what is now tradition, an annual group photo was captured on the Bedford School astro as Walking Football Leagues celebrated their 4 year anniversary. Each yearly photograph shows clear growth in participation numbers and reward for all the hard work behind scenes.
Ian, Steve, Martin and Phil deserve special recognition for achieving what can only be described as the biggest Walking Football session in the country! The numbers have skyrocketed because people keep coming back… bringing friends and family with them. Growth hasn’t slowed up because participants rarely leave and why would they?
What’s their secret?
We’ve been trying to figure that one out for a while now. In truth, it is simply down to offering a great service and taking care of people. An Email Update goes out every week providing information about the sessions, news, trivia and a networking session. On the current agenda is the Christmas outing to watch Bedford Blues.
Their format is Walking Football at its best:
- Turn up, check in.
- Pay your three quid.
- Have a little stretch off.
- Have a good old chat with the lads.
- Get into teams.
- Kick-off, walk about.
- Swap games/opposition.
- Repeat the previous two points.
- Finish up.
- Have a good laugh with the lads.
- Go home.
Admittedly, we could throw a few points in there about picking one of the guys up from the floor every now and then, or telling others to stop running.
Mondays at the Bedford School (MK40 2NE) all-weather pitch from 7-9pm. The first hour for intermediate and the second for advanced. Best to park off Brickhill Drive or Park Avenue.
Thursday afternoon sessions are held at the Cricket Club (Church Lane, Bedford, MK41 0UZ) from 2-3pm.
