We kick off the FA People's Cup 2018

Bedfordshire FA today became the first host of the FA People’s Cup for local rounds in 2018.

The FA People’s Cup returned to the Bedfordshire FA, with two of our Ability Counts Leagues showcasing PAN Disability Football in the county. We were host to two of our leagues at once; Disability League and Disability Championship.

The competition provided an environment to celebrate the start of our new season as well as engaging new players into teams. Dunstable Town FC has recently introduced two teams to our leagues in partnership with local school Weatherfield and Central Bedfordshire College.

The Peter Newton Pavilion was opened nice and early to mark the occasion. Breakfast went down a treat whilst teams registered for the day.  Hot drinks and sarnies helped beat the cold morning.

Once fixtures commenced, all players were eager to impress after the winter break. Enjoyment  combined with some outrageous pieces of skill made for a great day of football. Competition was as fierce as ever but credit to all the players who always maintained the Ability Counts spirit and comradery throughout.

Luke Hyde (LTFC Community Trust) will lead his Luton Town Hatters team into the Regional Semi-Finals representing the rest of our Super-League division in Bedfordshire. Standout performance for the Hatters has to go to Liam Leishman who couldn’t stop scoring. He’ll have the opposition worried in the next round if he keeps up this form.

Steve Savva (Bedford Borough Council) will be trying to take Bedford Griffins one step further this season after finish as overall runners-up last year. A couple of new additions have joined the squad in recent months so they look stronger than ever.  Joseph David-Oyediji was the pick of the bunch, with tremendous footwork. He’s going to be a handful at the Regionals.

Congratulations to all of the players that played their part and good luck to those that will be flying the Bedfordshire flag against the best in the country. We know you’ll do us all proud.

The Regional Semi-Finals are expected to be held across the weekend of Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th of March. We will be supporting all 4 teams that are progressing to the next round; including the Premiership category and Youth. Exciting times ahead!
