Luton Tigers Srebrenica Memorial Festival

On Wednesday 12th July, Luton Tigers held a inspiring Srebrenica festival in memorial of the 8372 Muslims who were massacred in 1995.

Teams from across the county including Luton Sporting, Caddington Youth, Flitwick Eagles and Leighton United attended and there were over 120 male and female players on show at festival held at Challney Girls School.

The evening began with a minutes silence to remember the atrocity before the football commenced. Representatives from the Srebrenica charity were also present and each player was provided with a special Srebrenica commemorative medal.

On the night Luton Tigers were also delighted to welcome Kelima Dautovic who is a survivor of a Bosnian Concentration Camp who came to this country during the Bosnian conflict and now works for Luton Borough Council.

Kelima said, ‘This is how we want to remember Srebrenica, by paying homage to the dead, the survivors and bereaved as people who survived ourselves. Thanks to the good people of Bedfordshire so that we could build our lives anew’.

Special mention has to go to Naz Zaman from Luton Tigers who organised the event brilliantly and ensured that every participant whether player, coach or referee knew the significance of Srebrenica.
