Safeguarding workshop for Committee Members

As you may already be aware, FA policy for affiliation for next season (2017/18) has changed to support The FA's on-going commitment to ensuring safeguarding measures are embedded across grassroots football.

In order to affiliate clubs with youth teams, the following committee members must ALL complete the FA’s new Safeguarding For Committee Members online workshop. It takes around half an hour and is free to complete.

•         Club Chair
•         Club Secretary
•         Club Welfare Officer
•         Treasurer (not currently a requirement but will need to complete the course for season 2018/19 affiliation)

This workshop does not replace the Safeguarding Workshop or the Welfare Officers Workshop and must be completed in addition to these workshops by anybody in the above roles.

A club’s affiliation will only be approved once all three people in the above roles have completed the online workshop.

Instructions for completing the Workshop and FAQs to help you are below. It is a brand new course which is accessible to all and can be completed by following this link: https://learning.thefa.com/course/view.php?id=308

How to access the Safeguarding for Committee Members course - Guidance

Please remember Committee Members do usually not need an FA Criminal Record Check unless they are in “regulated activity”, which means they are in regular contact with U18s in a manager/coach/supervisory role. The only Committee member who is required to have an FA DBS is the Club Welfare Officer.

Can clubs also please check on Whole Game System to ensure all coaches and helpers are named and have an accepted, in-date FA DBS. We will continue to do spot checks on clubs over the coming months and it is vital that everyone is FA DBS compliant and in-date. Please ensure they are kept updated and that nobody is involved in coaching who is not accepted on our database.

Finally, all Beds FA Youth Club Secretaries signed the Safeguarding Commitment Statement in December, where the club agreed to ensure that all managers and coaches attend an FA Safeguarding Workshop; there are still coaches who have not yet attended the workshop (or renewed online) so please check the Whole Game System records and ensure courses are booked if required. We have spaces on workshops coming up over the next few months and additional workshops are being added regularly to meet demand.

Thank you for your continued support and please contact Sarah DaCosta Sarah.DaCosta@BedfordshireFA.com / 07960 500723 if you have any questions or concerns.
