On Thursday, Flitwick Eagles launched their SSE Wildcats Session at the Flitwick Football Centre. To support the event Arsenal Ladies provided some coaching support, led by Tom Hartley, as well as a surprise player appearance from Arsenal and USA legend Heather O'Reilly.
Heather signed for Arsenal at the start of 2017 and in her illustrious career has won the Women's World Cup and 3 Olympic Gold Medals. During the visit Heather answered questions from the children, coached a few of her "trademark moves" and took part in some of the games played by the children.
The SSE Wildcats Programme will see 200 SSE Wildcats Girls’ Football Clubs opening throughout England this spring, each run in conjunction with the local County FA and their key partners. The move will provide girls aged from 5 to 11 with regular opportunities to play football and take part in organised sessions in a fun, engaging and safe environment over a minimum 16 week period.
The project is an integral part of The FA’s objective to double girls’ football participation by 2020 and has been established in a joint partnership between The FA and SSE, supporters of girls’ football participation and sponsor of the SSE Women’s FA Cup.
