The young players from Woburn & Wavendon Football Club yet again exceeded the previous years’ support for the work of the Royal British Legion with 100 % of their teams proudly wearing a special Remembrance Day poppy on each of their shirts this weekend. As a result, the Club was able to raise nearly £500 through the poppies4kits appeal.

All the players observed 1 minute’s silence ahead of their matches, and were proud to wear the poppies on their shirts - just like players in the Premiership and Football League, and without the controversial intervention the England & Scotland national teams faced from FIFA.

A delighted WWFC Chairman, Robert Hill, commented, “The Club has progressively increased participation in this amazing cause each year. I am so proud that we have now achieved 100% support this year. The enthusiasm of players, coaches and families has yet again been truly amazing. All too often we take for granted the freedoms we enjoy to live our lives and take part in football. Our boys and girls already learn the importance of team work and group responsibility through the game.

Remembrance Weekend re-enforces this but also highlights the ultimate sacrifices made on behalf of all of us”.
The involvement of the Club has not gone un-noticed nationally, with both the Poppies4kits appeal and Royal British Legion featuring the players of WWFC in their publicity.
