The store, on Skimpot Road, made the donation to help the Association fund its October half term programme, which offers local children the chance to improve their football skills whilst enjoying a week off from school.
The Association will hold their half term club at their new all-weather playing area adjacent to the store, which is currently undergoing an extension. The donation was made as part of the store’s commitment to supporting the local community.
Tesco Customer Service Manager said: “We were keen to support the Association as they offer a great range of activities for youngsters in the area. We feel it is important to offer support to projects such as these so they are able to continue with the work they do for the local community.”
Peter Brown, Chief Executive of Bedfordshire FA, said that he was delighted that Tesco have offered to support the running of the half term club. Peter continued: “We are always looking for ways to raise funds to keep our activities programme running so donations such as these are really important.”
The store will be shut from Monday 20th September until Sunday 26th September, due to final work taking place on the store’s extension. The store will re-open at 8am on Monday 27th September and an official re-launch ceremony will take place at 10am the same morning.
The store will invite a local charity to cut the ribbon and re-open the new store along side the Store Manager, Patrick Woods, they will also receive a £1,000 donation as part of the celebrations. Following the re-launch shoppers will be treated to complementary cake, champagne and orange juice.
Following the re-launch the store will offer a new electrical department, pharmacy, opticians, photo processing facilities and a Costa Café. In addition to this improvements have also been made to the clothing department, health and beauty ranges, homeware and toys.
The store will also offer a better olive bar, fresh fish and hot chicken counters, and a new fresh meat counter. Shoppers will also benefit from a bigger range of fresh fruit and veg, dairy products, frozen food, baked goods and beers, wines and spirits.
The store opening hours are 6am – midnight Monday to Saturday and 10am – 4pm on Sunday.
