Langford and Cranfield through in Vase

3:39 PM, Monday, 08 September 08.

Ampthill, Wootton and Bedford bow out.

Langford continued their superb start to the season as they cruised past fellow Spartan South Midlands side Cockfosters at Forde Park. Rob Groves got the scoring underway after 12 minutes and Wes Byrne doubled that lead on the half hour. Groves struck his second just after the break before Cockfoster got one back but the Reds weren't to be denied and further goals from Daniel Howell and Lee Pateman sealed the comfortable win. Cranfield continued their revival as the knocked out Spartan South Midland Premier side Haringay Borough thanks to goals from Stuart Reynolds, Dominic Lawless and Martin Wells all within 9 minutes of each other, a late Haringay goal was nothing more than a consolation.

Bedford almost made it three teams through but they lost out a last minute goal in Extra Time to Essex Senior League side Hullbridge Sports. Mark Reed had given Bedford a 25th minute lead but goals just after the hour and the one in the last minute of Extra Time gave the Essex outfit the win. Defensive errors cost Ampthill Town as they slipped to defeat to Combined Counties Leaguers Bedfont. Paul Mundy did draw Ampthill level after they had conceeded a goal after 20 minutes but Ampthill weren't level for long before Bedfont re-took the lead which they weren't to relinquish. Wootton's fourtunes didn't improve as they looked to take their minds off a slow league start, Sam Dandio did give Blue Cross the lead but a couple of goalkeeping errors saw them fall 2-1 behind and they couldn't fight their way back.
