Beds took an early 3rd minute lead when Lee Neale capitalized on some confusion in the home defence to tap the ball home from within the six yard box.
The remainder of the half was end to end – George Higley was unlucky not to increase the lead when his goal bound effort was blocked on the line and Aaron Mackay was a constant threat for Hunts - but half time came with the score still 1 - 0.
Liam Toomey came off the bench to net a second soon after the interval to give Beds a 2 – 0 lead, and the visitors grew in confidence.
In the 2nd half Beds played some exciting football and their slick passing took them through the home defence on several occasions.
Toomey completed his hat-trick with 2 further goals on 70 minutes and 72 minutes and in then the final minute of the match he netted the goal of the match after a great passing move to increase his personal tally to 4 and put the final gloss on the great 6 – 0 victory to start the season.
County Representative Manager Colin Sharpe commented "It was very pleasing to retain the trophy in the lad's first competitive game for the County and some of the football that was played was of a very good standard".
