Referee Courses

Updated 25th January 2012

The first part of qualification as a referee is to attend a course. Bedfordshire FA runs a number of different types of course, but where possible offers a practical course as its preferred format. The practical course involves 2 or 3 days of outdoor training and assessments as well as some classroom based tuition, longer courses are held 1 night a week for 8 weeks and would generally be classroom based courses.

At the end of the course are two forms of assessment – usually a multiple choice exam paper and a DVD exam. Successful completion of these assessments leads you on to stage 2 of the course where you must referee six 11 a-side matches. These games are not arranged by Beds FA but we will help you to get these appointments. They can be youth football (inc. Girls) or adult football but should primarily be matches appointed by a league. After completion of six games you must complete a form and return this to Bedfordshire FA.

You are then able to progress onto Stage 3 of the qualification which is attendance at a Callback session, usually a 2 hour session in an evening. All stages are compulsory and only at the end of stage 3 is your qualification complete.

Please note that it is also compulsory for all referees to complete Safeguarding Children training and for those over 18 to complete and enhanced CRB disclosure. These should ideally be completed prior to the course, the cost is covered by the Beds FA when you book onto a course so please contact Sharon Lloyd on 01582 567714 for details of how to arrange these.

How much does the course cost?

The course cost is £100 for all candidates.

There is no upper age limit but noone under the age of 14 can complete a referees qualification.
