KEEPING IT IN THE FAMILY
After 15 months of searching, the Chiltern Youth Football League is delighted to announce they have appointed a League General Secretary Designate – Jonathan Brown will take over from Jane Brown for Season 2009/2010; this season (2008/2009) he will “shadow” Jane (his Mother) learning the role.
Running the Youth League has been in the family since 1972, over 36 years.
Jonathan’s Father, Peter joined the League in 1972 and after several years as Match and Referee Secretary he was appointed General Secretary in 1978. After 14 years in the voluntary job, Peter was appointed the first ever full time General Secretary of the Bedfordshire Football Association and had to stand down from the League.
When the League was unable to find a replacement Jane, who had assisted Peter throughout his 20 years on the League, agreed to stand in as General Secretary while the League found a permanent replacement for Peter. Now after 17 years in post Jane has decided the time has come to stand down and after a long search a replacement was finally found close to home, or in the family at least.
Jonathan is not without experience having been a Club Secretary for 10 years; he holds a Coaching Award and has been a registered Referee for over 15 years.
Jonathan is looking forward to taking on the massive challenge of running the League which has over 300 teams and said “I am hoping I will be able to do as good a job as Mum and Dad have done over their 36 years of running the League – I know I will need to show the same dedication as them if I am to succeed but with the support of my wife Donna and with Mum and Dad in the background if required, I am looking forward to taking the League into a new era and working with the League’s other Officers and Management Committee to ensure the League’s continued success”.
